ADVERBS 

Read the following sentences carefully:
1. He is too careless
2. She reads carefully
3. He reads quite clearly .
 In first sentence ,'' He'' is the subject and'' careless'' is an adjective , the word'' too'' is modifying adjective careless ...shows how much careless he is ,
In sentence two ,'' She'' is the subject who is performing an action , word ''carefully'' modifies the word ''reads ''...means in what manner does she read...
In third sentence , the word'' often ''expresses to what extent the subject could ''read''  ...it means the word often is modifying an adverb'' clearly'' .

Definition : ''A word that modifies the meaning of a verb , an adjective or another adverb is called an adverb'' .
When something is added to the meaning of verb ...means an extra information given about an action being done ...like adverb is an answer to these questions  how , where , when . why , to what extent the action took place .

KINDS OF ADVERBS 

1. Adverb of time : : Adverb of time shows when does the action took place .
for eg: I have done this exercise before.

look : here verb is -  have done ...and now ,ask the question ...when have you done this exercise ? answer will be - before ....therefore adverb will be ''before'' an adverb of time , which is an answer to the question ''when ''.
words which indicate time :  before , after , now , today , tomorrow, yesterday, sooner , later , never , ago, daily already etc .

lets take some more examples :
* We shall now stand for national anthem
* I met with an accident yesterday .
* They will be arriving late .
* sooner or later you have to pay for your sins .
* He comes here daily.

2. Adverb of place : Adverb of place shows where does the action took place .
for eg : everywhere , away ,  up , out , somewhere , backward, there ,here, within  .
some examples :
The little lamb followed Mary everywhere .
There is a screw loose somewhere .
He looked up in the sky .
My brother is out .
The horse galloped away .

 3. Adverb of manner : Adverb of manner  shows how or in what manner does the action took place.
  for eg : quickly, slowly , swiftly , clearly , bravely , sadly , neatly , badly etc .
 some examples :
 Rahul reads clearly .
 Sita sings melodiously .
 He slept soundly .
 Slowly and steadily he won the race.
 Do your work neatly .
* note - most of these adverbs end in -ly 

 4. Adverb of degree : Adverb of degree shows in what degree or extent the action took place .
 for eg : any , almost , enough , fully , little , more , much , very , quite , rather etc
 some examples :
He is too careless .
He is much intelligent than him .
It is quite impossible to beat his score in chess .
I am fully prepared for my exams .
I am so glad .

5. Adverb of frequency : Adverb of frequency shows how often action take place .
for eg : twice , thrice , always , seldom,once , often , frequently etc .
some examples :
He frequently visits India .
I have told you hundred times .
She often chats with me .
I have not seen him once .
He regularly go to church for prayers.

6. Adverb of probability : Adverb of probability shows how sure we are about a situation or event .
for eg :definitely , certainly , obviously, perhaps , probably, maybe etc.
some examples :
Surely you are mistaken  .
He certainly went .
We will definitely be there .
They are obviously late.
Maybe the rain will stop soon.
