Read the following sentence :

A. "Ram said that Ram could not come to my house because Ram's father was taking Ram                out."              

Now read the same sentence again -

B. "Ram said that he could not come to my house because his father was taking him out ."


 Ques: Which sentence sounds better ?
  Ans :  Sentence B 

 Ques : Why ?
  Ans :   In first sentence there is lot of repetition of the word "Ram "which makes sentence 
              absurd and boring . And therefore sentence B sounds better .

 Ques : What is the difference between first and second  sentence ?
   Ans :  In first sentence noun is repeated again and again . And in second sentence nouns are                   replaced by  PRONOUNS.

WHAT ARE PRONOUNS ?

"Pronouns are the words that take the  place of nouns ."

 In order to avoid repetition of nouns ,we use PRONOUNS .


                                        DIFFERENT KINDS OF PRONOUNS 

1. Personal pronoun : These pronouns stand for one of three persons :

     a. First person : It refers to the person speaking
             These are :  I, we , me, us, mine ,ours   

     b. Second person :  It refers to the person spoken to
                  These are :  you , yours

     c. Third person :  It refers to the person spoken of 
               These are :  he ,she ,him ,her ,it ,they ,them ,their .


* When a pronoun is used as a subject ,it is said to be nominative case :

    example : She gave me your book .

Here , She is the subject of the verb and answer to a question Who gave me your book ?

* When a pronoun is used as object ,it is said to be objective case :

   example : She gave me your book .

Here , Me is the object of the verb and answer to a question Whom did she give the book to ?

* When a pronoun denotes possession , it is said to be in the possessive case : 

 example : She gave me your book .

Here , Your is in the possessive case . It answers the question  Whose book ?

2.  Reflexive pronoun : When the action done by the subject reflects upon the subject itself .                                                means turn back upon the subject are called reflexive pronouns .


     for eg : She love herself.
                  I hurt myself
                  They enjoyed themselves.

 In the above sentences, she ,I, and They tells that the subject is effected by their own action .

3. Emphatic pronoun : Some pronouns are used for a sake of emphasis, and therefore called 
                                        Emphatic pronouns .

    for eg :  She herself saw an accident.
                   You yourself can best explain .
                    He himself said so .
* Here the emphatic pronoun [herself / yourself/ himself ] puts emphasis on the pronoun[ she /         you /he ]
* Emphatic pronoun can be removed from the sentence and the core meaning would not be            affected.

4. Possessive pronouns : A pronoun use to express possession is known as possessive pronoun.

    for eg :  I think this box is yours .
                  This hat is mine .
                  The blue car that went by is his .

5. Relative pronoun : It is a pronoun usually help to join two sentences and relate back to                                                nouns going before them .

     for eg : This is the boy who won the match.
                  Take anything that you like .
                   This is the house which belongs to my uncle.

* Who/ Whose and Whom[ use for person ]
*  Which [ use for both person and thing  ]
*  That [ use for things ]

 6. Interrogative pronoun : These are the pronouns that always introduce a question .

     for eg : Which is your book ?
                  Who teaches you English ?
                  When did you come here ?

  * Who / whose and whom [ use for person ]
  *What [ use for things ]
  * Which [ use for both person and thing ]

7 . Demonstrative pronoun : These are used to point out the objects to which they refer.

     for eg : This is my pen , that is yours .
                   These are sweet mangoes , those are sour .

 8. Indefinite pronoun : These refer to a person or a thing in  general way ,but do not refer to                                              any person or thing in particular .


    for eg : None but fools do such things .
                 Few escaped unhurt.
                 Nobody was there to rescue a child.
